Redding’s Market Center Introduces the First Three Tenants in New Public Market Concept

Public Market Adds New Energy to Downtown Redding

K2 Development Companies is excited to launch the Redding Market Center, a new public market that draws inspiration from some of the most iconic destinations around the world, including the Oxbow Public Market in Napa, the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco, and Pike Place Market in Seattle. As part of its commitment to creating a world-class experience that brings the quality seen in these other markets, K2 Development Companies has enlisted the guidance of Steve Carlin, the visionary behind Oxbow Public Market, the Ferry Building Marketplace, and other renowned public markets in the United States and Canada. With Carlin’s expert advice, the K2 team is dedicated to crafting an authentic and appropriately scaled experience that is intended to provide an energetic atmosphere that transforms downtown into a top destination in Redding.

“Our vision is to create a gathering place, where residents and tourists can find superb local artisan foods, craft cocktails, best-in-class beer and wine, as well as other merchants and restauranteurs who showcase the best our community has to offer. Our hope is that it will become another engine that drives downtown, transforming it into a vibrant atmosphere that is full of activity every day of the week” said Allen Knott, CEO of K2 Development Companies.

“The momentum of downtown Redding is palpable and I believe it presents an excellent opportunity for a successful public market. The recent investment into the area as well as the energy behind the leaders making the changes is the perfect recipe that will elevate the quality of culinary and artisan product offerings of the area while staying true to Redding’s culture” said Steve Carlin, CEO of Carlin Company, LLC.

The first three tenants to formally commit to the Redding Market Center include Fall River Brewing Company, which has won multiple awards and is California’s 21st largest craft brewery, Bantam Kitchen a full-service restaurant that puts a modern twist on traditional Southern favorites, and a craft bakery created by Tarsus Foods that will feature expertly prepared scratch baked breads and pastries.

“Fall River Brewing Company is thrilled to join Redding Market Center. Our beers have scaled mountains, floated downstream, been fireside, and a part of all the little moments that make up a life well lived. We’re excited to embark on this adventure because we’re about connecting people and crafting memorable experiences. Our participation is a natural extension of our mission. We’re excited to help make Redding Market Center a must-visit destination for lovers of great beer, food, and local culture” said John and Amanda Hutchings of Fall River Brewing Company.

“The Bantam Kitchen is passionate about delivering exceptional Southern cuisine and to create an unforgettable dining experience that raises the expectations of the Redding area. The new public market concept is exactly the type of fresh, modern twist on a traditional gathering space that we believe our community wants and needs” said Kate Wood, Owner of The Bantam Kitchen.

“At Tarsus Foods, we have pioneered several new culinary concepts in the Shasta County region and the public market is the next step in pushing the envelope on what’s possible. In addition to providing a fresh take on a modern coffee shop, we intend to bring an artisan bakery to the Redding Market Center that has a specially-tailored brand and purpose to provide expertly crafted baked goods in an atmosphere where patrons can feel the excitement of being footsteps away from seeing the bakers in action” said Jonah Mills, President of Tarsus Foods.

In addition to the above artisans and merchants, the Redding Market Center plans to feature a full-service butcher, a farm-to-fork fresh produce vendor, a craft cocktail bar, wine bar, bottle shop, and other food and retail experiences. Redding Market Center will feature a 2,500 square-foot climate-controlled covered outdoor plaza called the “Drinks Garden”, a place where guests can interact as they enjoy their beverages among all of the activity.

The Redding Market Center is set to open in Summer of 2024. K2 Development Companies is still seeking a few additional public market merchants that match the company’s mission for the space.
