Scott Toussaint

Scott Toussaint is the General Counsel for Capital Rivers Commercial in the Sacramento office, specializing in Sacramento commercial real estate and professional legal guidance across the firm’s development and operational initiatives.

He began his commercial real estate legal career after earning his J.D. from Hastings College of the Law, now UC Law San Francisco. A Northern California native, Scott spent more than a decade with the Thoits Law Firm in Palo Alto. While there, his practice covered leasing, purchase and sale transactions, financing, property tax matters, and other complex real estate issues. Before entering the legal field, he studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a B.S. in Mathematics with a Minor in History. Scott later served as Vice President and in-house real estate counsel for Mattress Firm, previously Sleep Train. During his five years there, he came to lead the real estate team responsible for lease negotiations for the nationwide retail chain and gained a deep appreciation of the challenges and priorities of retail tenants.

In his role at Capital Rivers Commercial, Scott brings the analytical skills needed to navigate complex legal issues and the business judgment to avoid the over-negotiation that often slows deals. He advises on a wide range of development matters, oversees general legal compliance, and leads contract negotiations on all major projects. Scott approaches each task with a focus on assessing risk while keeping broader objectives in view.

Outside of work, he attends Pioneer Baptist Church in Carmichael with his family and can never get enough Bible study. He also enjoys talking sports, especially college football and basketball, and still has no idea how Stanford can be playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
